Question: Is lettuce good or not good for my pet rabbit?
(Posted by: Victoria on 2010-03-01 07:09:32)
I went for a checkup with my vet, and they said we shouldn't give carrots a lot, only the baby ones once a day. Ok, so we don't. Then she said that my rabbit (Holland Lop) should be eating mainly veggies with a little bit of pellets. Ok, so that's done. We give her romaine lettuce. My bunny doesn't seem to get diarrhea, doesn't get tummy aches, and totally loves the lettuce! But I go onto the Web and search "Feeding Rabbits, " and they say don't give lettuce! What should I do? |

Lettuce given to rabbits or guinea pigs is concidered not good for them, theres no nutritional value to iceberg lettuce, romane lettuce is what i give to my guinea pig,its healthier for them. |

If you do feed a rabbit lettuce, make sure it is labeled "organic ".Lettuce is good for rabbits. Iceburg lettuce is less nutritious but certainly not poison. Get dark green leafy lettuce, it has more nutrients. Look at this question (source) before you read MY ANSWER: |

I'd guess the site was referring to Iceburg Lettuce. You yourself shouldn't eat it, because it's a waste. Zero nutritional value. It would be like eating cardboard...only the cardboard would perhaps have more fiber. I think that Romaine Lettuce would be fine. However, as I always tell people, you can ask your vet these questions for free, over the phone. |

Is rabbit your horse's name? If not you're in the wrong catagory. |

Lettuce is generally not good for both guinea pigs and rabbits. If your rabbit doesn't seem to have anything wrong with her, maybe you should try the vets. Not to get her checked out, (Though you could if you wanted to) but purely to ask advice. |

Why is this here? Nobody here knows anything about rabbits. You need to ask this in the " rodents " or " other pets " sections- you'll get far better answers that way. |

Lettuce isn't bad at all for rabbits they actual love eating it. It will give them vitamins and stuff like that to keep them health. You can feed them anything from (cucumbers, bananas, apples, watermelon, oranges, tomatoes, bread, cereal, crackers, ect) some will eat anything and some won't it just depends on the rabbit(s). As you said (My bunny doesn't seem to get diarrhea, doesn't get tummy aches, and totally loves the lettuce!) Well this is because it's good for them just like its good for you also. It's kind of if you was on a veggie diet and didn't eat all that other stuff that was bad for you. You would start to feel better, more energize, happier, healthier, ect and with your bunny he/ she would feel the same because it gives them the stuff it gives you to be healthy. I really don't know why the website would say that unless they don't know what their talking about or never every owned a rabbit before lol. Hope this helped and Good luck! Tori ♥ PS: Also you posted this in the wrong section, but I didn't want to answer to garp at you just to help u... :) |
