How can i tell if my koi carp has pop- eye disease? here is a link tat shows the koi http:/ / www.flickr.com/ photos/ 44743369@N03/ 4111239149/ i had this fish for some years and the picture was from a year ago and there has not been any extra growth in its eye sockets etc so i am not sure if its just born that way.

The thing is, you have to consider whether the fish's eye is protruding from the eye socket. In the photo you provided, it's hard to tell because of the fish's color and the angle. However, it does look to me like the Koi has Pop-eye. The eyeball itself is poking out from the surrounding body which usually indicates the illness and should be treated asap. However, if you had the fish from birth and it always had larger eyeballs then of course you know that it's just the fish, but from my experience the eye does not stick out like this. The pop-eye in this photo isn't as protruding as most, but it does need treatment. Good luck and check out the links...Just remember that Koi need at Least 1,000 gallons per adult fish so a pond is the best place for one.
