Why are my koi fish shy?
i have 7 huge koi 3 sharks and 2 gold fish 4" in a huge pond may be around 2500 gallons they refuses to eat food when i am standing in front of them they are almost 1 month old in my tank . and i had some stray kittens in my garden about 15 days ago , now they have left .they just go and hide under plants . what may be the reason for this kind of behaviour and what is the solution and can i add some turtles in this pond

Why does my butterfly koi have eyebrows?
I've been looking for quite some time to find something identical in a picture to what I have in my indoor pond. I have a 26 inch butterfly koi in my tank. He has two small appendages that grow between his eyes and nostril spots. Not much in size, maybe 3 4 of an inch each, one on each side of his head. These are flowing, similar to the waviness of his fins. Is this a normal process? From the initial owner, I was told that this was a certification of true breeding through their parents, but at the same time, I can't find anything similar to back this up.If anyone knows, feel free to enlighten me, lol.EDIT Sorry for the confusion, it's not eyebrows, but that's the appearance that it gives. It is one spot on both sides, between nostril and eye, around 3 4 of an inch long, with colorings that match the fins of the fish. The main thing I'm looking for is just to establish that1 This is a healthy, and safe issue.2 Whether or not this is normal, or a rare occurrence for the whiskers tentacles to be bushy3 If anyone has a link to a site that shows other butterfly fin koi with the same design as the one I'm referring to.Thanks

Who knows how to raise koi fry?
Me and my boyfriend have just been given some koi fry to raise and we have no experience raising them. The people who gave them to us gave us some helpful advice but they have never personally raised any koi fry. How well are we doing? We caught approximately 150 out of the pond and we have been keeping them in a 5 gallon food grade bucket lined with a plastic shopping bag. The water is aerated up close to the top so they dont get tossed around by air bubbles. We change a large portion of the water out every day and pour in fresh water that has been sitting out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate from it. We have been feeding them koi food. We also allow a small amount of algae to remain in their bucket as an additional food source since they are bottom feeders. We are going to do this until we can dig a pond for them here soon. So far the death rates are very low so we're assuming they are natural deaths but if they aren't please let us know how to stop it Any advice for making a proper pond for them? Any advice for keeping animals and insects away? How should we go about feeding them? we are concerned they are malnourished since they are a bit smaller then the koi fry still in the pond The koi fry are about 19 days old now. so i got this 10 dollar pool and i want to dig a hole to put it in so im gonna do that then obviously put my fish in there with water but what filter do i use can i have gravel will they boil in the sun and freeze in the winter? i live in FL HELP

My koi's body is literally rotting away... half of his body is gone!?
I have a Koi that I have taken care of for more than 5 years and 2 weeks ago, the fish got sick. It laid on it's side and can not move. It looks as if half of it's body tail half is paralyzed, and I have to manually bring him up to the surface so that it can eat. Last week, I thought it was getting better because it started to swim despite the fact that half of his body still can't move and as the week went on, the paralyzed half started to literally rot. Now half of it's body is to the point where it is just skin and with exposing bones. I can start to see it's organs and it can't swim well, although half of his body is gone, it is still trying to swim and eat as usual. I know that it is suffering, but I don't have the heart to end it's life, and although it can barely swim, it is trying very very hard to stay alive. Will my koi survive if I amputate the rotting half? The rotting half is at the point where it is like a deflated balloon with bones. Please tell me what I should do PS I have other kois in the tank, but they are just fine. I'm afraid that his illness is contagious.P.S.S. My kois 2 have been living in tanks their whole lives and are just fine. My kois are all under 10 inches. The rest are goldfishes
How to cure anchor worm on koi fish?
why do i have anchor worm in my fish tank?? i clean it every 2 week and use a lot of good bacteria to break down food. so today 3 of my koi die and attach to it body there a alot of anchor worm. luckily i spot and save the 5 koi. im trying using a tweezers taking those thing out
Koi at the bottom of tank?
Why does are koi fish like to rest at the bottom of her tank.? 55 gallons. she swims,eats, is very active but every now and again she sits at the bottom like she is resting or wanting to lay eggs. she seems to be wanting to hover under a few of the other fish in the tank. whats up with that?
Koi and pond questions?
I am fairly new to koi keeping. Right now I have a snap set pool which is about 400 500 gallons and 8 feet in diameter and anywhere from 12 15 inches deep. I have 11 koi at about 5 6 inches.There are no stones or sand in the bottom but i have potted lilies and some parrots feather plants. There is a filter and a fountain. I feed them hikari wheat germ and frozen bloodworms as a treat. Are there any other good treats that will help them grow besides bloodworms. I am thinking about getting sand or rocks a substrate what is better and why. Will sand clog my pondmaster filter? About how much is rock or sand for ponds. Can i use the all purpose sand that comes in bags? I know not to use limestone. What submerged plants are good? Do you think my koi are thriving? How am I doing. It seems like they are growing a tail length a month does that sound right.How many other koi should i add if any. THANKS
Koi fish in corner of pond?
koi fish are only haning out in the bottom corner of pond and crowding into each other. They won't eat. Water is clean and an additional pump for oxygen. They refuse to swim into other area of pond. I checked water to make sure there is no electrical short but I could not locate any. Turned off all pumps for a few hours but still nothing. They are crowding into one corner as if trying to escape something. No gasping so far. Water is crystal clear.
