My young horse is acting up...?
The horse is 1years old and 6 months. I have had him for 6 months. I'm fifteen and I have never had a horse before. This horse is usually calm, but since we got rid of this bad horse that was his playmate, he all alone with 2 goats. I was eating a banana with a water bottle one day outside, since it happened to be a beautiful day. I was sitting on this big tire in the horse pasture that day, and my horse came curious. I let him eat the rest and started to walk away with the banana pill. He then can running at me and shook his head. I stopped and yelled at him to stop that. I walked again and he ran at me in front of me that time and I stood my ground as and halted to a stop. I then smacked him hard, but then I thought he may have just wanted the banana pill and though it on the ground. He's be more feisty ever since the other horse left, so what did I do wrong and what should I do?
Why does my horse make a click like noise when moving?
I just bought an 8 yr old horses that hasnt been ridden in 4 yrs so i have to start all over. I noticed when I lunge her and lead her at the trot mainly and sometimes at the lope I cant tell much at the lope I am consentrating on her not running away with me lol so she could click then but not sure I rarely hear it at the walk. I do hear it sometimes when leading at trot. I do not notice it while riding but i am very distracted training her. She is quite out of shape but loosing weight quite well and starting to gain muscle. I was researching and I found a few things saying it was just lack of muscle. She does not like to carry her head low unless shes walking riding, lunging, and leading if I trot her or lope her her head goes up. I have tried lunging with saddle and bridle tying the reins to the stirrups so they tug when she puts up her head and just making her lower her head when I ride her, but she just doesn't do it unless I'm constantly on her about it I read something about how the clicking it can make a difference how they carry there head whats causing it that's why I told you that. So I am just looking for answers. I just would really like to barrel race her but if this means arthritis or something that would be more then just gaining more muscle I will have to stick with trails and WP. I have been really working at her gaining muscles but it doesn't happen overnight. So IDK if the clicking will stop with time. Thanks,Me DI am not positive where the noise is coming from but i know it has to do with leg movement so it could be the hips or the legs or hocks...I only tied the reins to the stirrups because my trainer told me to because she wont give her head to the bit. I trust my trainer I live in MN and he is such an amazing trainer people come from CA, CO, TX, Top part of Canada, occ. out of North America. So I trust his judgment on the tying reins to stirrups. And he was not sure on the clicking if you want to know why I didnt just ask him. He also told me I should try asking around. She is shooed in the front but I don't think its her knocking her feet together if so what protective thing would you use to keep it from causing damage?
I need a good flyspray for my horse--and none of the commercial brands work. Any good home-made ones?
I've searched the net and it is very confusing all kinds of crazy recommendations. Does anyone have personal experience with a good home made remedy?
How do you imprint a horse?
Whether it being a foal or an adult, how do you imprint? I don't own a horse or anything, I just want to know. I mean imprinting with a horse usually a foal to get them used to people. I don't know how to do this. But your answer about branding was very good D

anyone know of a website that has the 3 piece horse puzzle that i can print and cut out?lol, its a puzzle with 2 horses that are seperate peices and 2 rider on one peice, and you have to get them each to ride one horse correctly. someone showed it to me,it looks like this, britton.disted.camosun.bc.ca crackerjack cbpuzzle.html and i was wondering if anyone knew a website that had those peices, but in black and white so it doesnt waste much ink.
Most humane way to kill a horse?
Our horse broke it's leg. This horse is my wife's but it stays at her parents farm. Her dad says to shoot it in the heart but I said the back of the brain stem is the most humane because it instantly kills them.
Why is my horse acting like this!?!?
So, I have a 4yr old paint gelding. He is was very broke. NO bad habits. I got a new 6yr old paint gelding 10 days ago. I have worked with and ridden my horses since then. But today I went out to ride work with them and they were both acting STUPID. The 6yr old I have mounted and ridden. Not today Today he reared when I tried, and was very very jittery. I haven't seen anything spook him since he's been here. My 4yr old who is so broke my 5 year old can ride him, took off prancing with my older daughter on him. He was acting stupid The whole time I was tacking him up and grooming him, he was all in my space, pawing, tried kicking me when I went to clean his hind hooves each hoof I did notice that he has many bite marks on him from the new horse. Are they figuring out their lead horse all over again because I introduced a new horse? Do I have to reprove that I am the high horse?I am so frustrated I am sore, dirty, nipped, sweaty....and crabby, lol.I did correct them every time they got in my space dominantly or nipped at me or pushed me with their heads or bodies, but I am confused. What do you guys think? And I DO have the experience to deal with them, this is just a new situation for me so I am asking for opinions from others. It never hurts to be informed Thanks for answering My 4yr old even kicked a nice dog today who didn't even do anything ok, I was hoping that was all it was. Omg, it was SO embarrassing I had one lady ask me if I was teaching my 4yr old ground manners She didn't think he had any, that's how bad he was. Ugh, I can laugh now, but I just got back from the barn so frustrated. I love those silly naughty horses
I'm thinking about starting horse riding again after 2 years?
I've just finished watching a catch up program of Martin Clunes' Horsepower and I have a real urge to start riding again.I started riding at a really young age and I had a bad fall when I was 7 when a horse ran off with me. I injured my jaw and my confidence was so shattered by this that I didn't actually ride a horse until I was 11 12 when I moved to a new area and found a new riding school which I really liked and still do . Every week over the phone I would stress that I wanted to be put on a horse that will boost my confidence with me and to have my favourite instructor, they did tell me every time that they couldn't garuntee everything which I appreciate. They operate a 'grading' system and with each 'grade' you can do bigger jumps and ride harder horses and while I know they want to keep their clients safe and don't want to get sued but to go up a 'grade' you have to pay like 31 for an assessment which you can fail to jump higher which is utterly ridiculous and is obviously something to make money from.I never had any problems with them until August 2008 when I was put on this horse called Sherlock. Sherlock is mainly for the riders that can handle the harder horses to ride and to put it simply I'm just not cut out for a horse like him.In my lesson 'we'll call this Week 1 and half way through the lesson Sherlock does HUGE buck which put me off balance and then a little buck to finish me off. I fall off its fine, I laugh it off I landed on my feet Score he bucks all but then the next week I am put on him again and I do pretty much the same thing and do nothing in the lesson. So I don't go back. Then in November friend says she has a horse for loan for 20 a week and I go and ride him but find him again, too hard for me, so I gave him up in May of that year and now I dearly, dearly miss going horse riding every week. I went riding on holiday in Devon and I remembered how RELAXING it is, it was lovely and now I've watched that program I am longing for a horse to ride. So my question is do I go back to this yard and have my very specific specifications if I can afford it or do I look elsewhere? and well done if you managed to read all of this

How do you train a mini horse to jump?
Not Allowed To Jump Outside Of Lessons On My Own Horse?
Well i dont have my own horse yet. but i may get one sooner or later.i was wondering though. If you have your own horse is the boarding facility allowed to tell you that you cannot jump outside of lessons? Even if you are under 18? Right now i am riding a 15hh appaloosa named Eyota. she is a darling. But i may get my own horse soon. And they told me that i cant jump outside of lessons until im 18 even with my own horse, or else insurance wont cover. Im just wondering if they are allowed to tell you what to do with your horse... I love the facility and even if that is the case im not leaving. I just really want to get more into jumping and i only take 1 lesson a week. And also what if you dont take lessons you just board your horse there? If you pay for the outdoor jumping arena shouldnt you be able to use it? xx not to seem rude but i am just wondering. thanks for all the answeres
