Anyone ever tried chick starter to put weight on a horse?
I have a hard keeping mare and a friend of mine told me to start adding chick starter to her feed. She said she used it on a Thoroughbred and it increased his appetite and packed on the pounds. Anyone familiar with using it? How much did you use?

Has anyone else gotten a massage for their horse (equine chiropractor vs. masseuse)?
I recently started my mare on a round of deep tissue massage treatments by a trained professional. I was wondering if anyone else has tried getting their horse a massage by a professional, and if so, what your story with it is. How your horse acted moved before, did the horse like the massage, benefits afterward, etc. My mare She was very sore, crabby, and would buck and run if you sat any more forward than the show style of western pleasure seat. She would pin her ears in her stall, and become a monster when you would girth her even touch her belly chest. After girthing she would not take any steps forward with her front legs that exceeded 1 inch. She curled her head in almost like an arabian when loping she is a western pleasure style quarter horse . We tried everything from a gastroscopy to having the vet check her to rule out any possible sources of pain. We finally turned to a massage from a professional that we know and love. After the second massage out of five, Bella is no longer putting up any fuss while being ridden, has a much longer stride, holds her head correctly, and all of my issues that I was trying so hard to fix with training are gone. Her conformation is actually better her buck knees are more stable , and she is 1 million percent happier. I can now girth her up without her biting everything in the general area, and she no longer short steps on any leg. I am curious to see what happens after the third and fourth massages, and I would love to hear about anyone else that has had an equine massage performed good or bad results . I would also love to hear opinions on equine chiropractors vs. deep tissue massage.

I am probably moving from CO to PA later this summer. Does anyone know how I find a farm, to make a pit stop at for my 2 horses, along the way? I'm thinking illinois, chicago area?
12-14 year old girls, who love horses?
I've really just been looking for someone around my age that LOVES horses as much as I do.Sorta like..what do they call it... Like a Pen Pal or something, where you like email them and get to know them.. And Yeah, I just want someone to talk to that LOVES horses as much as me. and Some people may think this is like stalker'ish. But I PROMISE I'm not a creeepy 40 year old, that stalks little girls. haha, I'm just a regular 13 year old girl that wants someone to talk to about Horses. If you have a barrel horse what do u do to make it fast?
i have a horse that can run a 14 but i wan to see if it can run a 13 and beat this one horse. we hate each other and we want to beat each other every time we run.i have a horse that runs a 15 but i need her to run a 14 to beat this one person. she has been trained for 4 years on this and right now we are getting trained by a nbha champion my sis . this person just wont stop trying to beat us. help this horse loves and i mean loves to run. we run out in the fields all the time and its hard to stop her cause she loves to run so much.
My horse is weird???????
my horse is really making me mad. he acts scared of me, but i never hurt him. he try's to avoid me. he just looks at me like 'fuck you' he wont let me pet his head through the fence, and today i walked straight up to him and tried to pet him and he jumped away and did something that looked like he tried to bit me... i've done join up with him a lot. so i dont get what his problem is?he also walks around the corral and flips his head in like a circle. why?oh and, do you think if i start riding him more, that will help him calm down?

whats the best hay for a horse? i give my horse 5 or 6 flakes of alfalfa hay every day, but is it true that alfalfa makes horses hyper?my horse looks better since i ve been giving him alfala hay, but hes a lot more jumpy and hyper
How much should I feed my horse?
I have a 21 year old mare and she seems to not keep on any weight. I feed her 2 fakes of hay and 1 2 a scoop of a mixture of oats and corn in the morning. She gets 1 flake of hay in the afternoon and 2 flakes of hay and 1 2 of the oats and corn mixture at night.
What different areas can I specialize in if I want to be a horse vet?
I have done a lot of research and so far Google has yielded no answers except for dental and cardio heart . When I grow up I was hoping to study to be a vet that specializes in bones, as in helping a horse with a broken bone heal. I would treat things like osteomititis bone infection and the like. But no matter what I cannot find what a horse vet of that description would be called. If there is not such a thing, I would have to be the first PS the closest thing I found to a 'bone' vet was an orthopedic vet but that is more so the spine of horses and deformities affecting it.

What do I do about this horse?!?!?
My mom's friend has a horse, and they never ride the poor gal. They saved her from meat and she's only 5. The way they broke her was horrible. They start out by doing a big gallop and then when she's tired they walk trot Canter. So it's horrible. They haven't rode her for more than 6 months. So They offered to bring her to my barn so I could ride her. Of course she is still Green and broke the wrong way. So I have been teaching her how to bend and steer on leg, She's starting to collect and go on the bit. She has come a long way. But we may have to give her back. When we give her back She is going to go back to her old bad habits. She is smarter than that They said they would never sell her. I want to have her. She's worth a lot more than she used to. And I want to figure out how to ask them about selling her. She would be happier. Don't think Im crazy for wanting to have her, but she never gets dewormed. Never gets her teats cleaned. Never see's the farrier and I feel bad She has been healthier and happier at my barn. What should I do? I really care about her
