Question: My hamster is very noisy at night. what should i do?
(Posted by: mreid on 2010-03-09 18:37:58)
My hamster makes a lot of noise at night. I know this is expected for hamsters because they are nocturnal. I wear ear plugs at night and take his wheel out. I want to know if there is anything else i can do because I want to not have to take his wheel out at night because i want him to be healthy. Suggestions? |

Give it it a little tap on the head with a hammer, if this doesn't work, give it a submersed bath in hot water. |

Maybe move him to another, safe room? There's really no way around this. Hamsters are more lively at night then during the day. What do you expect? Him to stay quiet while you sleep? Nah. I suggest either locating him to another room at night, or you sleeping in another room at night. |

Put some vegetable oil on the wheel or just buy a silent spinner from Petco or Petsmart. You could also just move the cage to another room. |

I have a very loud hamster too. Move the hamster to another room, perhaps the laundry room, porch, or family room. Taking the wheel out night after night after night will cause your hamster to gain weight, and be un-healthy. If you do choose to move your hamster out of your room, close your door. It will reduce the loud squeaks and noises. Hope this helped. ~TaiiRaii |

I would move your hamster maybe to a different room, but if you do have other animals who could get to him other places or you just don't want to move him I would get a silent wheel because then he will go on the silent wheel and not do the other noisy stuff, (he is only doing the noisy other things because he is bored and doesn't have a wheel to cure his boredom). Or I would put his wheel in the cage at night and spray cooking oil on the wheel, it stops the squeaking noise and it doesn't harm your hamster. Or I would put in some silent fun toys for your little buddy. Hope I helped!!! I know exactly know what your going through all my hamsters were verrryyyy noisy at night. Oh and if he is gnawing on the bars (which is a big part of the noise), I would get him colorful wood blocks or apple orchard sticks, my hamsters love them and they gnaw on the bars less. |
