Question: Is it ok to reintroduce a male gerbil back with his pregnant mate.?

I have a breeding pair of gerbils that are about 8 months old and are expecting there first litter in the next 2 or 3 days. The male however got diarrhea about 2 weeks ago and i had to take him out of the cage to be on the safe side, in case the female could it to and lost the litter. He is fine now and has got the all clear. I am concerned however about putting him back in with the female. I have put him in with the female a few times over the past few days and they still seem to recognize each other and are fine together, they will even still sleep together. I am not shure however about when she gives birth to his pups, will he accept them or will he kill them. Has anyone ever had this problem and has anyone ever try ed putting a male in with a pregnant female. |
