Question: I am the repo man, people often make their dogs attack me,how can i repel dogs safely?
(Posted by: The Verbal Assassain on 2010-03-10 21:33:11)
I love animals, so I am not going to mace a dog, or shoot a dog (i dont even carry a gun) Can somebody turn me onto a device or a gadget that has a proven track record of repelling dogs. I am not going to be able to avoid the confrontation with dogs, (because of asshole irresponsible pet owners who dont make car payments either, ) So I am hoping that there is a way to do it with out the use of force, because when I am forced to hurt a dog, their owner will have to deal with ONE PISSED OFF BAD ASS INDIVIDUAL!! And I dont want that, I am a nice repo man, your friendly neighborhood repo man!! Thanks in advance for any help on this! |

Bribe them with food. Get a huge glob of peanut butter. That will stick their mouths shut. Meat is never refused. Get a chunk and toss it a small distance away from you. Get an air horn like they have at sporting events. They're deafening, and dogs have sensitive hearing. Yes, it hurts, but it stops instantly. Citronella spray is available cheap at pet stores. It DOES NOT burn. Dogs just don't like the way it smells. You could invest in a catch pole like animal control uses. It'll stop 1 dog dead in it's tracks and you can use it to push other dogs away. |

You can buy a citris spray from pet stores that are quite cheap. Spray it on your shoes and bottom of your pants, it should keep them at bay. |

Try ammonia in a squirt bottle. It won't do permanent damage but will slow down anything but a pit bull. |

Either food or an air horn, air horns momentarily hurt and stun the dog but wont do any damage. Its worked wonders for me in the past. A good guard/ protection dog cant be bribed with food though so I'd go with the air horm |

Citronella spray that you find in most pet store are for refilling bark collars and will be useless in your job. You will need a bottle that sprays a distance try Direct Stop/ Spray Shield [ premier.com/ View.aspx?page= dogs/ products/ behavior/ sprays/ sprayshield/ description ] |

Well one thing is for certain, all dogs' number one priority in the wild and domestically is food. In a case of an attack dog, I would keep something really good and out of the ordinary on hand and the key is something very smelly. Something unusually smelly will catch that dog off guard and distract its attention. Perhaps something like a chunk of ham or something similar. Ham, especially whole hams, are very smelly even to humans so imagine what a dog would think. plus you can get those at walmart or pretty much any grocery store and it doesn't cost too much, plus it can't hurt the dogs. Any smelly food works great. I use freeze dried beef livers to train my beagles because that is the only thing smelly enough to catch their attention! Just find something really smelly that you can throw out for them. |

Try air horn in a can ( left hand - 1 can and right hand - 1 can ) , noisy enough to stop dogs & people in its track. |

The food idea seems poor. This isn't a cartoon where you can distract a dog with a steak. If the dog is actually even semi-trained to attack you, food won't distract it. The air horn idea might be ok, but considering you are put in a position where you are in danger, you need something more potent than that. Honestly mace sounds like the best way to go if you are dealing with a dangerous animal. If you're dealing with dogs that harass you but don't really attack you might be able to get away with something less potent. |
