What kind of dog house should I build for a lab?
I've heard a ton of stories on how certain dogs won't use certain dog houses just because of their shape. e.g. My friends cockerspaniel wouldn't go into an A frame but when he bought a different kind it instantley went in. So what kinds do labs like and dislike.

Holy crap! Have you seen this unbelievable dog house?
This bespoke doghouse is being built on an exclusive estate near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. resizemypicture.com pictures 5034961a41a0e35e1231135770.jpgresizemypicture.com pictures 1924961a3a836d3c1231135656.jpgInside, the dogs will sleep on sheepskin lined, temperature controlled beds, soothe their aches in an 18in deep spa, howl along to a 150,000 sound system and watch dog friendly programmes on a 52 inch plasma TV.Automatic dispensers will ensure that chilled, filtered water and deluxe dry food are always available. The two dogs will each have a bedroom with large windows which overlook their own private playground. 'Dog vision' webcams allow their owner to monitor their activity 24 hours a day, while climate control ensures they are kept warm. There will be a sophisticated retina scanner installed at the front door to stop any other dogs getting in something the Great Danes may view as a bit of a party pooper. There's even a spa bath with a saline treatment built in because it's good for their coats. The kennel will be about a quarter of the size of the 1.4million main three bedroom 'Hedron House'.It has been designed by leading architect Andy Ramus, and will be built from materials such as zinc, glass and limestone at the estimated cost of 250,000.The house was designed to produce more energy than it uses, with an underground heat pump, geothermal heating and its own solar and wind power.Unreal, but very cool Sorry about that. Crate training a new puppy with a 2 year old dog in the house. ?
I'm about to welcome a new puppy into my home. I plan on crate training her as it was very successful with my two year old dog. My two year old dog is now able to stay in the apartment un crated during the day. She also sleeps in her doggie bed, next to mine. During the crate training with the new puppy, what should I do with my older dog during the day? Also, should I let the new puppy and the 2 year old dog sleep together in the crate? Or let the 2 year old dog sleep in her bed and crate the puppy for sleep. Thanks for your suggestions.

When did people start keeping cats and dogs in their houses as domestic pets?
I know the Egyptians kept cats etc, but I mean actually in their houses, not in temples or palaces. ThanksKellyvic I do not have a cat or wish one thanks. Dogs are much more loyal to their carers. I am curious as to when people decided to keep pets, that is all.

House-trained dog having issues at night. What could be wrong?
We have 2 rescue dogs a male lab mix and a female border collie mix. Both are house trained. Both have full run of our 2,000 sq ft home while we are at work can be up to 10 hours some days . They NEVER have accidents in the home while we are at work. Never. However, at night which could be as little as 5 hours some nights , the female border collie mix will ALWAYS go to the bathroom in our sun room. Always urinate and sometimes defecate. It doesn't matter if we just brought them in from outside or not. She will every single time. And she always goes in the same spot. I know we must not be getting the smell completely out, but there must be something else going on. Why is she doing this? Why can they stay home alone all day long for up to 10 hours and be completely fine, but at night, when we're home and they only need to be inside for half the time, why does she do this?We obviously started crating her at night and the accidents stopped. The male lab stays out at night and the female collie mix gets crated. It's just amazing though that during the day, alone for 10 hours, this doesn't happen. And if we forget to crate her at night, being inside for only 5 hours, while we're there, she will. What is going on? It must be behavioral, right? But why? How can we break this besides crating? Please help. Thanks. We've had the male lab for a little over 2 years and the female collie the one with the issues at night for 15 months now. So I think she'd be used to the house now.And we have used all the Nature's Miracle products and everything else that's available. I think I'm just going to get rid of the carpet and get hard wood Thank you though I'm glad that we rescued too

How to stop a dog from "marking" in the house?
Here's a little background...We got our dog when he was five weeks old due to his mother rejecting the litter. He's been close with our other dog since we brought him home. They are only a year apart and act like long lost brothers. He was incredibly easy to house train since they went outside together and he got the idea pretty quickly.About a year after we brought him home, a co worker of my husband was looking for a home for his 12 year old husky. We saw the poor dog being left outside all the time and knew that we had to do something. We brought him home making our total three dogs in the house 12 yrs, 2 yrs, and 1yr There was initial jealousy on the part of our youngest dog who slept in between us the first night which he hadn't done since he was a little puppy, but he seemed to get used to having the older dog around. As the husky got older he started having problems " holding it" . He would urinate in the hallway and on some furniture if he was left alone for a long period of time. We understood it was his age and we made the appropriate modifications to the house to protect furniture and carpets. He passed away peacefully in Nov of 2007 roughly 13 or 14 yrs old . We did what we could to make his life with us comfortable and loved him his last few years. After his passing our youngest dog has taken to " marking" the areas that the husky had once urinated on. I have since cleaned the carpets and brought new furniture into the house to replace pieces that still smelled from the husky. I thought that would solve the problem, but now he's taken to urinating on anything he feels doesn't belong where it is. If the cooler is left on the floor after using it, he will lift his leg. If the laundry basket is left on the floor, with clean clothes, he will lift his leg. It's always when we're not around or home to see him do it. When I find what he's done, he will put his ears back and give a low tail wag. He will then try to nuzzle me or cuddle with me as if to say he's sorry. I don't yell at him when I find it, I just say his name. I know that I can't correct him for the act unless I catch him in the middle of it, but how do I stop him from doing this? I'm getting new furniture soon and I don't want it to " marked" .Thanks to all who reply. No, he is not neutered. We considered it, but a friend who works with a vet said it wouldn't change anything but his personality. We love his spunk, just not his scents.

How (if at all) can I stop my dog peeing in friends house?
I know he's marking his territory as he only does it in houses where there are, or have been, other dogs. It's got so that when I take him to visit friends to socialise him with their own dogs that I have to keep him in his crate for most of the time kind of defeating the purpose of the visit He's a terrier, a year old and not neutered. Would neutering help? Thanks in advance...I'm sitting on the fence about neutering...I've heard all the fors and againsts and figured if I didn't need to do it then I probably wouldn't. He's not ,aggressive, can be a bit nervous i was told his testosterone would help him with that , and my vet said they don't do it 'just because' and would prefer a reason. Still...I guess I have my reason now.
