Odd dog behavior...HELP!?
I have a 12 year old shitzu who is not neutered we wanted to breed him but he NEVER showed any interest in any female dogs of any breed, in heat or not. He never exhibited any mounting behaviors except with his stuffed teddy bear. I guess he never seemed to get the hang of it? ha About 9 months ago we adopted a male schnoodle who we then got neutered. They have always gotten along ok together, playing, sleeping beside each other, but nothing sexual. All of a sudden, yesterday morning my shitzu started licking the schnoodle's penis, panting constantly, licking at his face and ears, and trying to mount him. At first the schnoodle didn't know what to do. When the shitzu started getting more aggressive with his attempts, the schnoodle would push him away, snap, and growl at him. This hasn't deterred him at all and he has been doing it nonstop, day and night for 2 days now. When I try putting one dog outside or in another room, the shitzu goes crazy barking and scratching at the door, and he NEVER barks. Getting the shitzu neutered is not really an option due to how old he is. What do I do??edit... 1 my dogs have been together for 9 months and have never had trouble getting along this came out of nowhere. and like I said, if I separate them there is incessant barking and crying. Nothing has deterred him he always listens to commands,a firm " no" has always done the trick in any other situation , I have tried spanking him does nothing. The other dog snapping at him, chasing him, growling, does nothing. The shitzu is not approaching him in a dominance way. He is wagging his tail, and licking the other dogs nose and penis. I do not believe this is about dominance at all.And 2 like I said, he has shown no interest in female dogs in heat or not, and this has nothing to do with his teddy bear, I was just using it as an example.Possibility I have heard that if another dog's anal glands need to be excised it will attract other dogs?like I said...HE'S NOT A NEW DOG They have been together for almost a year, and it is NOT dominance.I'm aware dominance doesn't make my dog bad or ill tempered. I'm just telling you I know it is not a dominance issue. My schnoodle and past dogs have shown their dominance over other dogs and this is not the same thing.
Where can I contact a dog behavior specialist in Dallas/Ft. Worth area?
Do you know one? My dog growls and bites at everyone and even the vet can't handle her. She never sees people and hates all people and animals. I was advised to get a professional pet behaviorist. How do I go about finding one?
What does this dog behavior mean?
high picthed fast barking, tail straight up, but wagging back and forth, ears alert. ?I've always wondered this when walking past other dogs in their yard....is that aggression?
What is typical dog behavior after birth?
My dog, Daisy, just gave birth almost a week ago. She was wonderful with the pups the first day, but since then it's like she is ignoring their cries and constantly leaves them while they are nursing. She also doesn't look where she sits, and sits on them. They cry out but she doesn't make an attempt to move. Is her behavior normal?I do not leave the pups unattended for any length of time. They are with me 24 7 and if I happen to have and " urgency" I have 3 other people supervise them while I am away. When she tries to get up while they are nursing, I encourage her to lay back down. When she sits on them, I move her or reposition her and help the pups find a " nip" . And she is going on three years old, so I did assume that she would have more of a motherly instinct with them then a young mother would. The pups otherwise are in great health and getting heavy and the mother has to go in for a rabies shot tomorrow, the vet said it was ok for the lactation and would not harm them.

Quirky dog behavior! Help!?
My six yr. old boxer lab mix has been doing this for years now and i dont know what it means, if its okay and how i should stop it. We have his food and water bowls in a little stand thats about a foot and some inches high. So they are right next to eachother and he frequently uses his nose to try and push his food over into his water bowl or vise versa. Its cute for a while but then the food and water spill all over the floor and makes a big mess. I was just wondering if this is like a sign he dosnt like the food or somthing is wrong. Please helpTHANK YOU
Question about my dogs behavior?
All of a sudden my dog hates being outside. We usually tie him out in the morning and he hangs out there for a while. Well all of a sudden he whines and cries like crazy every time we put him out there. He doesn't seem sick at all. He spent the entire weekend with us and was playful. I need for him to be outside during the day because I am temporarily watching my cousins baby and even though he's great around kids he is big and sometimes jumps. I don't know what to do... I'm afraid someone is gonna call the cops on me, he is being so loud He has always spent a good portion of the day outside, he is a year old and this just started a couple days ago. I wish the baby gate idea would work but he just jumps it.Sorry for all the updates but he also has my other dog out there to play withI never said I left him outside all day And yes I have 2 dogs tied up and they can reach each other and play. Wish I hadn't bothered asking. Shoulda known this would turn into me being a bad dog owner
My dogs behavior is hurting himself...What do I do in this situation?
My dog has had a problem with scratching himself and biting himself around his private area. He has seen a vet and they gave him some medicine and what not. But now it seems like he is scratching his biting to the point he starting to bleed and he does this every once and while and he gets really red. I am planning on taking him back to the vet asap but I just want to have some knowledge on what it could be and some common problems. Please Answer asap. Thank you.

My dogs behaviour after giving birth?
I recently rescued a little west highland terrier from a mean woman who really was not looking after her...I was charmed to take her and give her a loving home Unfortunately, she was pregnant when I got her I suppose I should not have been too surprised, given the fact her previous owner didn't really care about her. I cannot see for one second why not, she came to me hair matted and un washed brushed. She had paint on her coat etc..in a real bad way but still managed to wag her tail and give me a cuddle. The first thing I did was take her for a groom and a check up, this is where I found out she was pregnant. I know there are people out there that will ask why I didn't get the puppies aborted, but I didn't want to do that to her. She has such a placid personality, I didn't want to take the chance and possibly ruin that. So, I decided to let her go ahead with the pregnancy. For the time she was pregnant we gave her lots of love and special treatment.Fed her well, took her for walks etc. etc...My 5 year old was excellent with her and she was with him. I thought " jackpot" , I've found a little princess here DOn the 30th of July, the morning of my sons birthday party, she gave birth to 4 lovely little puppies...not the ideal day, but they where healthy and so was she and my son was charmed with his birthday surprise D The puppies turned 4 weeks old on Saturday, they are coming on so well. My dog on the other hand is not. Health wise she is perfect, she's eating well 3 meals a day plus a treat , I've started to take her on short walks over the last few days because she's able to be away from the puppies a little longer now. Yes the puppies are getting attention, but I have to say we are giving her just as much if not more. Every time we rub a puppy, I have her under the other arm, rubbing her and allowing for her to lick the pup etc etc. My problem is, she has really gone backward with her peeing and pooping. She came to me house trained blessing . During the day she would bark at the door to go out and do her business, at night I would leave a training pad down for her and only if she really needed it she would go on there. Now she is peeing and pooping everywhere...and when I say a lot, I mean A LOT Plus, she is walking on it and mashing it into the floor. It's a nightmare to come down to in the morning and I am really trying not to loose my patience but it's very difficult. The puppies are going on the paper for me but she won't I can't understand this change in her and am wondering if it is normal??Also, she doesn't want to be with her puppies, which I understand is normal. But when she is with them, she's crying and barking to get away from them they still want to feed of her and when I put them into the room by themselves, she howls and cries to be with them. Seems she doesnt know what she wants I've given her a separate bed from the pups to allow for her to have her own space away from them, but I don't know what else to do. She howls so bad for them after 5 minutes and scrapes at the door etc etc...and then when I let her into them she does the same to get away. There's no winning.I would love some advice, this is the 1st time I have had a female dog and the 1st time I have had a dog have pups. I just want to know, is this normal? Is there anything I should shouldn't be doing??? All advice greatly appreciatedThank youHi..thank you both for your help and advice...I will certainly get in touch with my vet 1st thing in the morning.I am already feeding the puppies puppy food and oats made with puppy milk and they are taking to it very well...they may only feed of her once maybe twice a day...but I will try to reduce that as much as I can. I am feeding her high quality food recommended to me by my local pet shop, along with home made dog food containing minced chicken, beef or turkey with brown rice and carrots i was told this would help her keep up her strength .I do feel the pups are hurting her when she is feeding them and I will be sure to check this out with the vet.Thank you so much, I feel better knowing that what is happening is not normal and hopefull the vet will help...I can be more patient with her now that I know that what's happening is out of her control.Thank you
Dog behavior is driving me nuts?
Hi all my partner of 7 years has a staffy x that is now nearly 13 years old. He has always been a handful and gets out of control every winter. He is not the slightest bit aggressive but howls constantly.A bit of background....... He has two replaced knees and is on 20 tablets a day for thyroid and mental problems he is also on pain medication we have spent $12000 in 3 years keeping him sane and healthy. We have had intense in home training which has limited effect, he stays indoors with the door open all day and his bed is next to a heater as he has arthritis in his back hips. He goes for a 10 minute walk around the block in the morning and a 30 minute run in a paddock every evening regardless of the weather. We make his own food as well.My drama is we now have a newborn baby who he loves and won't leave alone so I am at home all day I am going out of my mind with the howling. We have missed out on so many things over the last few years so that the dog has someone with home 80 % of the day and I don't go on my partners business trips family friendly so I can dog sit. I always wanted to have a peaceful environment for my baby but I am so stressed out I am thinking of moving to my mother's place until the dog eventually passes as the vet tells us every year is imminent . My partner is waiting for one more thing to go wrong before he puts him down as he feels passionately that a pet is a friend for life and that he would be betraying the dog to put him down. Before you post angry comments about me being a pet hater you should know I have been a strict vegetarian for 17 years due to my love of animals. How can I convince my partner that the dog has had a brilliant life and is now miserable and he is doing his duty as a pet owner to put him out of his misery and also to put his family first. I don't believe 1 or 2 hours of happiness a day is worth it for the dog. We don't play games in our relationship so I don't want to use ultimatums I just want him to make the decision himself so he won't resent me for making him put the dog down.Hi Ed my partner and I are incredibly happy except for the dog so we won't be getting counciling. We have looked at adoption but he can't even go to a kennel he got expelled from everyone in town. we can't even hire a sitter because he won't tolerate anybody else. If he was " rescued" he would end up in the pound a destroyed within a week. No farmers want a staffy on their property either as they are hunting dogs and he is too old to be with a hunting pack he would be mauled. Thanks for your concern but I am still convinced that his quality of life is no good
Cute dog behaviour :D :D :D?
My dog is 7 months old and she's a jack russell terrier. At the minute she's lying on the sofa and she's watching the t.v, an advert came on with dogs in it and her ears kept pricking up, it looked so cuteee, then one time she hurt her paw and she held it up to show us it was hurt and she kept on coming over and sitting in closely to me so i wondered what was wrong, it turned she could still walk but she was just exaggerating, does anyone elses dog do strange things?
My dogs behavior has been changing.?
My 2 and 1 2 year old pugalier Prune has recently been changing her behavior to resemble that of what I would describe as some kind of depression. She has grown up with her 4 month younger sister Foo dog since she was 7 months and they are nearly inseparable. She has always been very playful and eager to please. Recently however she has shown little interest in playing and often sits and whimpers at nothing. She has visited the vet and is considered to be in perfect health so Im not concerned physically. I suspect that the younger of the two girls Foo has taken a dominate stance in the household as she seems to lose interest in things as soon as Foo exhibits interest. Otherwise I'm at a little bit of a loss. Anyone have any suggestions of a change that I could make to see if it helps? I feel bad for her, she just seems sad.
Does a full moon affect my dogs behavior?
We came home today and my dog was gone for 4 or 5 hours.... She never usually even tries to leave the property, and we found her pretty far away. Could the fact that it is a perfect full moon affect her behavior? Just wondering, thanks." FIZZBITCH" why do you got to be like that?
