Anybody good with dog behavior/body language?
Why does my min pin rub herself all over my dad around his neck? It's cute, but I'm just wondering. Does it mean anything in particular?Don't answer if you don't know.
Can dogs understand dog behavior coming from humans?
My friend wears dog ears and tail around the house to help communicate and play with his dog. The tail he wears has wire in it so it can stay however its bent. He pulls it up when he's suppose to be alert and he pulls it down when he isn't. The dog acts differently to both positions to the 'tail'. The ears have wire in them too so when he perks them forward as if he's listening to something his dog raises her ears too. Once he barked out the window and she looked around then started growling and barking too. Does the dog really understand or is it just a coincidence that she's doing those things?
For people who really know dog behaviors?
Just recently my german shepherd shyanne has been waking me up at like 4 30am she cries like when you would come home and first see your dog they do this cry well she does that to wake me up then once im wake she gets real anxious to get outside so i get up and let her out and she runs up to where the line of the yard and the woods are and then snarls and barks at the woods and its still dark out and i cant see what she is snarling at but i don't have a very scared dog shes not scared by much but when i let her out she is scared of whatever is out there and because shes nervous it makes me very nervous. In the morning when its light out i let her out and shes fine and i go to the edge of the wood with her and she does nothing and i don't see anything there its only around 4 30am when she gets weird. i just don't know what she is doing i just don't understand what it is.This is exactly what she does at the woodsyoutube.com watch?v mSbFQq dXm8& NR 1My dog has been trained. You should see the stuff she can do, probably more than your dog.If it was an animal, the animal would run away she she would attempt to go after it
Any dog behavioralists out there care to explain my dogs behavior?
My 16 month old dog loves to play with other dogs and he has lots of regular play pals who he plays great together with. But when he gets around younger dogs that are very submissive he keeps piling them into the ground and seems to get, I hesitate to say it because I'm not sure it really is this, but, agressive. Is it normal that he treats these dogs this way? Will he grow out of it or is this behavior that I need to correct? I notice that older dogs seem to just leave the really young ones alone and tolerate their playfullness. Is he just going through a phase where he hasn't yet realised that he needs to be cautious with the really young ones?
Any suggestions for unacceptable dog behavior?
I am writing because I have a bit of a problem lately my dog has been acting extremely protective aggressive. She has always been afraid of people this may due to poor socialization skills in the beginning I rescued her about 2 years ago I moved to a new location and ever since that move she has changed. I even brought in a behaviorist to help me with her being protective in the house. We also went on walks together with the behaviorist and I have been following all rules she has been to two classes of training. I have put almost a grand into her dog training and she does get a lot of exercise it may have to be with her being alone a lot. We do get out a lot at the park but sometimes she wants to jump at people and scares them. I honestly do not know what else to do. Her problems have become so bad that I am afraid she will harm someone. It is kinda hard to return to new place. I moved to an entire new city.
What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to dog behaviors than owners never correct?
Personally, I HATE when people let their dogs out of a door as soon as it opens. I have my dog sit and wait for a minute or two whenever a door opens I don't ever let him rush out. It creates situations where a dog will just push past you and possibly escape and run off.More than I dislike people who let their friendly dogs offleash, I dislike it when people walk their aggressive dogs anywhere in public without at least trying to train it to tolerate other dogs.
Does anyone have a dog that is impossible to get across (what is proper behavior and not proper behavior)?
You know like your dog just doesn't get it and when the dog does something wrong they just wag there tail and look at you like " What?" Anyone have that issueI'm just saying like you dog pees on the floor and it comes to get you and shows you and wags its tail hypothetically like it was good......though this has been my experience with positive training she gets it now but it took forever and it took some bad dogs to finally get the point across Also does it seem they just aren't that bright or too smart for their own good. My dog is too smart for her own good
Is there a vet or someone with animal behavior knowledge to answer my question? dogs and fireworks...?
hello, i have 3 dogs, 2 golden labs and a golden retriever, and during the holidays with the whole fireworks and loud noises, my 2 labs are perfectly fine, they don't even mind the fireworks we don't use any at home but we can see and hear from neighbor's houses etc but my golden retriever gets ina way that i cannot describe. he starts to hyperventilate apparently, and even if i sit with him, like i did last year, we sat together on the floor ina dark corner where he ran off to, my husband and i with him, caressing him and he still hyperventilates and shakes and cries, and i'm afraid it'll be bad for his heart or something. he even had a little piece of cotton balls in his ears to cover the noise, and we gave him a few drops of a sedative the vet gave us that was supposed to make him more at ease, but i swear it was as if he was all alone and scared, and i really don't know what to do with him this year, i feel really bad that he suffers so much from this. any ideas on how i can minimise this for him? cos my 2 other dogs actually go outside and run around like there's nothing going on.. thanks so much for any thoughts u might have.
My dog ate a band-aid and egg shell!! She also has behavior issues?
Should I be worried? What should I do? about the band aid and shells. She ate her food and immediately ran outside and threw it up I feed her purina dry food and natural balance can food. Also, my dog used to be very mellow and gentle. Now she goes around nipping at people and barking I don't know what is happening. Is it because I haven't walked her? > I haven't walked her because she has a wound where her harness has been. There are cuts and the vet shaved off her hair and I put medication on everyday. > > I also can't use a collar because she has a tugging problem, which the behaviorist trainer told me that " there's nothing much I can do" until her wound heals. Everytime I stop, I just stand still so she won't tug, she pulls even harder and it restrains her breathing.> > > I try give her time in my backyard but the vet wants to limit the dirt she comes in contact with the wound is in her chest area .She barks and nips and is starting to bite. She also jumps on people and sometimes she very suddenly growls. What body gestures so I be watching out for to differentiate from play and agression?Thank you in advance. She also pulled out a chunk of fur and ate it. She has no fleas and ticks because she's on prevention. Ideas why?He suggested a harness that went around her legs but only so I can have control over her on pees. Thank you poppy I'm not quite sure if I'll use the prong collar. Anyone want to expand on this?
Please help with dogs behavior?
My standard poodle is 7 months old. She is fine in the house, but whenever I take her out to go to the bathroom or on a walk she goes crazy. She runs in circles and pushes me over. Worst of all she jumps up and bites my hands until they are numb. There is no way to tame her and she doesn't let go. When we come near the door she pulls me away and pushes me over. Then she bites me. It takes me about 30 minutes just to get her in the door. And that is after suceeding to pick her up because when I try she wiggles and bites. This really isnt an agressive bite, but a more playful, but out of hand bite. It hurts and im a afraid if she continues it will turn into agression. I've tried EVERYTHING so if you are a great trainer then help me out. Please Ten points
Does placement of doghouse influence behavior of the dog?
Hello,My family is moving into a new house. We have a collie mix who is a very sweet dog. The only time she is not sweet is around people she is meeting for the first time. She tends to be defensive around our two daughters. She has never bit anyone but sometimes she makes me nervous and I watch her really close until her and a new person warm up.She is an inside outside pet and we live in the country where she stays outside when we are not home sometimes. She stays inside outside when we are.I am wondering if where I place her doghouse might influence her behavior towards someone. For instance, if her doghouse is facing the driveway will she feel more inclined to be more aggressive towards someone who comes up the driveway or if her house is in the backyard will she be less likely to be aggressive? She is free range.Any ideas?Thank you in advance
What funny human behavior does your dog?
exhibit or that you have noticed??? My dog tries to bribe me with things when he wants his way. when he wants inside he comes up to the sliding glass door with his favorite bone or ball and taps on the door like " Hey look what I brought you" as soon as I open the door he drops whatever he was holding and runs inside and tries to ignore me when I tell him to," GET OUT" or when he's sleeping in my room and I come in and turn on the light he throws me this half awake mean, nasty,EVIL dirty look and " sighs" and I reply " Oh sorry your Highness I didn't mean to disturb you"
My dogs behavior..help!!!?
I rescued a min pin from someone. He is anywhere from 1 2 years old. He is a fantastic dog, well behaved and seems to be house broken. He has not been neutered, and seems to have a strong strong interest in looking outside all day long for other dogs He crys and barks when he sees other dogs, im not sure if he had a dog with him before he was left at a truck stop with a sign sayin " needs a good home" . He seems to not be interested in much other then looking for other dogs. He does play a lttle bit, but then again ive only had him for 18 hours. Can anyone shed some light on his behavior? Also I need a very inexpensive way to get his shots and have hime neutered.
How do you stop a dogs aggressive behavior?
I three female dogs. One is a 11 year old Lab mix, one a 9 year old Jack Russel Beagle mix and the last a 3 year old Black Lab. All 3 got along with no problems until just recently. The Black Lab has gotten into fights with the other two, all at once, and one on one with the Jack Russel mix. It usually happens if they bump into each other in the dark or when they running around inside the house. It never happened running around outside in the yard. They may OK for a few weeks then all of a sudden they start up and then stop after a few days. All three are fixed and it doesn't seem territorial, or fighting over food. The Black Lab just seemed to start being aggressive recently. All I can think of she is the youngest and is trying to be the Alpha female. Any ideas except physical punishment will be appreciated.
