Do chinchillas, or their cages/litter/excrement attract roaches?
i am about to adopt a 4 month old chinchilla. i am positive this is the pet for me, but i have one question. do their cages, or litter, or excrement attract roaches? my apartment complex has been dealing with them for some time now, and though they are under control and not in my apartment i am worried they will be attracted to my little one. please let me know if there is anything i can do to stop this... and also, if it does attract them, are they harmful to the chin? does my chin want to eat them? thank you so much

How long do domestic chinchillas really live?
I have a 12 year old chinchilla. According to the research, chinchillas seem to live anywhere from 10 20 years. That is quite a gap in range Does anyone know what a more realistic age range is? I'm just not sure if my chinchilla is close to the end of his days, or if he has years more to go.

A strange question about chinchillas and their nails...?
I have read that chinchillas need their nails clipped once in awhile, but I'm having a problem finding my chins nails, lol. It sounds funny, but I looked at all his fingers on every paw and see and feel no nails. Do some not have them or could his previous owner have removed them somehow, becuase they are serously not there, or just so small and smooth, I'm thinking its part of his pads. I've looked very closely too, so I'm not sure I can be just not seeing them. Can someone help with this question that specifically knows about chinchillas not rats or hamsters or mice because I know tthey have nails and I have felt them and seen them before, but where are my chins nails?I know it sounds stupid too, but I am seriously wondering about this and need serious advice I've done sooo much research on chins so I'm not an ignorant owner yes, he is my first and I've only had him a few weeks, but I am well educated on my little guy Is it possible they're just so short I can't feel them? He is only about 3 1 2 months old could tthat explain it somehow? Thanks...Yeah, he gets dust baths like 3 times a week now for about 10 minutes each times it used to be more but I cut back. And no, I wasn't planning on clipping them every week I'll just check them every so often to see if they need it, but that is if they grow. He's a violet light grey which I know isn't a natural color for them I read its a mutant color beautiful but unnatural anyway, maybe that could have something to do with him not growing nails if he doesn't.

Are chinchillas from pet stores in new jersey reliable and healthy?
I'm interested in purchasing a chinchilla. ive heard the whole shpeal about how chinchillas in pet stores are from chinchilla mills and anyone who is interested in one should purchase it from a breeder. Although, the breeder will not have the chinchilla i desire ready for me for another two months. There for i am considoring just buying one from pets mart in holmdel. it's a good area and the majority of prior pets i have purchased from them have been sufficiant and healthy, what should i do?

Can I use KMR Kitten milk replacer for baby chinchillas?
I have seen some stuff online about using evaporated milk mixed with water as a supplement for chinchilla milk. I called one vet clinic and they said to use KMR Kitten Milk Replacement, and another vet told me something totally different. neither vets were for exotics... my exotic vet is on vacation and since its a sunday... no one is around There is not much out there about it... whats my best bet? Any advice? I have both the KMR and Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk on hand... Im just waiting to get a 2nd opinion from someone that has used either on their pets with success. Thanks

If i were to go to my local petsmart right now would they have chinchillas there?
would they have chinchillas there like hamsters? or do you have to like order them?

I have 3 chinchillas and I need help!?
I have 3 chinchillas all girls and my mom is letting me get another boy if I want. I have had the 2 sisters for 2 years and the other female for 4 months and they are all vet checked. , and i kinda want to breed 1 of them. But some websites say that you should wait until they are about 5 months and some say I should wait a year. Also some websites say if I do breed them I can leave the dad in with the kits because they are great helpers, but others say they'll eat the kits if I don't separate them at birth.P.S The chinchilla I want to breed is only 6 months old, so no worries, until she is old enough i will keep doing my research every day.

How long will it take 2 chinchillas to get used to eachother?
i got a new mosaic chinchilla yesterday and i have them seprated but they try to bite eachother through the bars and they chatter at eachother so i wanted to know how long this will go on before they stop trying to fight and do you know any secrets to introducing chinchillas like to make it easier on them and me thnk you and include anything esle i should know oh and they are both males

I have one male and female chin. My male is neutered and I also have a non neutered male that my female is with. This is kind've confusing. Can I let my chinchillas 1 female, 1 male neutered and 1 non neuered male play in the playpen together. I know that 2 males would fight for the female. And both males are bonded to the female, just for a little while supervised ?

My chinchilla is scratching a lot, and lost some of his fur?
My chinchilla is scratching a lot, and lost some of his fur around his ears and nose. I took him to a vet and injected him with something for mites. I live in Malta and I did not find any vets that know much about chinchillas. so i am pretty worried. He still eats and drinks, but i noticed that he is not that energetic.Could it be becuase of the shot taken yesterday? whenever i go near his cage he would want me to pick him up in order to sleep on my lap. Anybody had anything similar?
