How to fix my chinchillas matted hair?
I noticed my chinchilla, who is around 4 years old, was starting to get a few awkward lumps in her fur. I went to try and comb them out with a very light bristled brush and realized the problem was a lot worse than I realized. Mostly around her rear are large clumps of matted fur and I'm not sure what to do. I tried to cut a few of the smaller pieces out, but the matted clumps go far deep into her coat and I don't want to risk injuring her by cutting to the skin. She is very energetic and it is nearly impossible to get her to sit still. The matted hair doesn't seem to bother her at all, but I am worried the problem will get worse. How can I fix her hair?
How do I separate two male chinchillas who have been together for a year?
I have two male chinchillas they have been together for over a year and I would like to seperate them. I was told by one person you cant otherwise they will get depressed and start tearing their hair out, And I was told by another person to seperate before one get agressive with the other. I would like to seperate them in to two cages and put them in different rooms of the house is this safe to do with out them self mutilating them selfs I really dont want to try it untill I get some good advice from people who are knowlegable if you have any please let me know I really dont want to invest in a extra cage good ones are not cheap and find out I have to put them back together thanksIm not being mean, and I asked a question to get answers because I would like each kid to take care of their own pet and let them have them in their space we are great pet owners there is so many different opinions I just wanted some advice, if I have to keep them together I will, just thought maybe I could seperate them right know ,they are in one kids room and the other needs to have access to his but I cant have them in the living room because I have one kid that has allergies to them, so this was a way we could make it fair, but Im all about what is best for the animal and we can go either way, Just wanted a ansewer, I just started with Y questions please just be kind when you answer, no put downs for asking a question please

i was just courious since they eat raisons and apples wondering if cannalope would be ok for them?
Can chinchillas eat cucumber?
I want to give my chinchilla some fresh veggies every once in awhile but I don't know what to give her, I have been giving her small cucumber slices because it pretty much has no nutrients in it at all and no fibres and junk, just water.. is it good for her? and what else can I give her, I don't like to feed her raisins because she doesn't like them and often has diarrhoea from only eating two of them...
My chinchilla doesnt seem to like me?why?
yesterday i got two female chinchillas, and i got them from craigslist ,they came with a big cage very big and it was one black and one white.the white one doesn't seem to like me, but the black one does and is very comfortable with me.i dont know what to do to help my poor chinchilla. it barks makes noise when i come close
Do I have all the information on keeping a chinchilla as a pet?
I am very interested in keeping a chinchilla but I have never had one before. I'm not sure I fully convinced my mother to let me get one but if she lets me then... I have researched them online and I think I know what I need to do to care for a chinchilla properly. If this is not correct then please tell me what isn't correct and if I left out anything. Ok so, I know that they have to have big, roomy cages with lots of things to play on and it can't have any plastic because chinchillas chew to keep their teeth from growing too long and they can't digest plastic. Also, I need to buy chinchilla pellets with no treats in it for them to eat. Also, I heard that they can only have treats about twice a week because of their digestion. They need things to chew on that are safe for them such as twigs that are not sprayed with anything and that are not cedar or pine. Also, they need bedding such as Aspen. It also, can not be cedar or pine. They need their dust bath about twice a week. If there's anything that's wrong or I forgot anything, please tell me Thanks so much Oh and I forgot about their flying saucer wheel
How Can I Tell My Chinchillas Gender?
I have two chinchillas and when i got them like 7 years ago I was told they were brother and sister. I don't think this is true just because I don't. And well they both look the same. I mean I am not an animal perv I swear lol. So how can I tell if my chinchillas are boys,girls, or one of each?
How long does it take for a chinchilla's hair to grow back?
I have two chinchillas out of five that don't get a long. The older chinchilla is the younger chinchillas dad, however they haven't seen each other in a while. Because of this the older one started to pick on the younger one and the fur on the younger ones rear is Very scarce, and there are bit wounds. I feel horrible that I didn't catch this in time, they are now separated and I think I may have found a new home for the younger chinchilla. I was just curious how long it will take for his fur to grow back because I'm worried about him getting sick.Little fur has a lot to do with it getting sick, if it can't maintain it's regular body heat they can become cold and eventually sick. And I would really appreciate some serious answers instead of ignorant, idiotic ones that people just post to get points.
Is my chinchilla drinking too much water?
My chinchilla is drinking whole bottles of water in a day. He usually drinks about half a bottle but latley he has been drinking more and more and peeing like crazy. Should I be worried? I tried looking stuff up online but all I could find is things to do if your chin isnt drinking water. He is a male so no hes not pregnent. He is eating normal and no weight loss. He will be 2 years old in October. Please only answer if you know about chinchillas. Stupid answers are annoying thanks He's not a cat, he is a chinchilla
Spotted ears on a Chinchilla?
My chinchilla has spotted ears and I thought nothing of it until recently. I tried searching the internet for other chinchillas with spotted ears or for what the spots mean but found nothing.How rare are these spots and does anyone know what they mean? Just curious.Good idea, he needs an appointment anyway. D
Some Chinchilla advice!?
Ok, I'm thinking about getting a Chinchilla. Ive been doing alot of reasearch on chinchillas, like what they eat, how long they live. Should I get one, or two? What cage should I get? Im thing about getting the Chinchilla from Gieger True Value, and the cage from PetSmart.com. I need some more information though I also have 3 cats.. will they attack my Chinchilla?? Any good brands of items I sould get?
